Our Team

I’m Joseph Hurdt, the pilot behind NC Hot Air. My passion for flight began more than a decade ago, when I first experienced the quiet beauty of traveling with the winds.

When we take to the skies, it’s very much a family adventure. My wife, Kristen, and my parents, Christy and David Hurdt, make up the heart of our crew — along with an abundance of family, friends and fellow enthusiasts. Ballooning is truly a team effort, and we couldn’t do it without the amazing people who share the journey with us.

In everyday life, I’m also the founder of Excite Tech — a technology consulting firm I started back in 1999 to help businesses and organizations thrive through smarter, more personal IT solutions. While Excite Tech keeps me grounded in innovation and service, NC Hot Air connects me to something simpler and timeless: the art of flight, community, and perspective.

Both worlds share the same heart — helping others. Whether it’s securing a client's network or showing off the sunrise from a balloon for the first time, my goal is to make each experience meaningful, safe, and unforgettable.

When I’m not supporting clients or flying, you’ll likely find me with Kristen and our four-legged co-pilot, Gabby, somewhere outdoors enjoying the beauty of the Western North Carolina Mountains.
